The original June 22, 1916 marriage record filed in Jefferson county for Robert and Valeira Lyon stated that she was born at Packwood, Iowa. Because this marriage record was actually signed by both the groom and bride, this memorial will be changed on July 10, 2015 to have the DOB location entered as Packwood, Jefferson county, Iowa. This is assuming that the marriage record was read, reviewed, and approved by Valeira and that the birth information noted on the marriage record was correct. How it came to be, 62 years after the marriage, that Valeira's obituary would move the birth location from Packwood, in Jefferson county, Iowa to Richland, in Keokuk county, Iowa, isn't known at this time. Any clarification would be appreciated (note: this section revised October 31, 2017 as the locations mentioned were inadvertently transposed when this section was originally written). A search was made by this contributor on July 19, 2015 and no Jefferson county birth record for Valeira was found. Whether or not one exists in Keokuk county, Iowa, needs clarification. ------------------ Fairfield Ledger Tuesday, July 18, 1978 Pg. 10 Col. 3 Lyon rites Wednesday Valeira T. Lyon, 84, 503 E. Lowe, passed away at 9:05 a.m. Monday at the Jefferson County Hospital. She had been ill the past three months. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Behner Funeral Home in charge of Rev. David R. Kennedy. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held tonight at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Lyon was born June 9, 1894 at Richland (sic. marriage record indicates birth was at Packwood, Jefferson county, Iowa), the daughter of George and Isa Tracy Snider. June 22, 1916 she was married to Robert N. Lyon (sic. not certain if middle initial "N" is correct or not) and he died April 26, 1952. She lived most of her life in the Fairfield community and was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Good Cheer society. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Verle Hall, Birmingham, and Bernice Allbaugh, Sigourney; four sons: Raymond Lyon, Birmingham; Harold of Marion; Bruce, Fairfield and Max of Burlington; also 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Mary Linn, Burlington, and three brothers; Clemens Snider, Burlington; Cecil Snider, Reynolds, Ill., and Quentin Snider, Galesburg, Ill. She was preceded in death by one brother and one grandchild.
