She was the first child of Sylvia (Sommers) and Elmer Ransdell. She had a happy childhood, helping with her brother, two sisters, and daily chores. Read More	ANDERSON, VIOLA—Viola was born on what was known as the Kaufman or Ackerman farm in West Blue township near Grafton on Nov. 18, 1917. She was the first child of Sylvia (Sommers) and Elmer Ransdell. She had a happy childhood, helping with her brother, two sisters, and daily chores. She learned to love animals and she valued the closeness of the family working together. She graduated from Fairmont high School in 1934. She had taken normal classes, so she was qualified to teach. Her one and only teaching job was in 1936 at District 11, a one-room school. During this time, Viola’s family moved to Oregon. Viola married John Allen Anderson on the evening of Dec. 24, 1936, and they moved in with his parents on the farm. In the spring, his parents moved to town, and Johnnie and Vi farmed the homeplace for over 40 years. They raised their two sons, John and Gene, on the farm and had a close active family. They did many things together as a family and were involved in their community and in their church. Viola was active in the Extension club, PEO, and the church ladies group. Hospitality was a way of life for Johnnie and Vi. They entertained family, friends, church speakers, and traveling missionaries. Viola gave her heart to the Lord at an early age, and her faith was always important to her. Johnnie and Vi were active in the Methodist Church for many years. When they retired in 1977, they moved into their own home in Fairmont. In their retirement years, they golfed, traveled and took pride in their yard and gardens. They attended the Evangelical Free Church in Geneva for a few years. In 1996, they moved to North Gate Garden Estates in Lincoln and attended Oak Lake Evangelical Free. In the spring of 2001, Vi and Johnnie moved from Lincoln to Meadow Woods in Bloomington, Minn. One year later, after 65 years of being together, Viola, because of failing health and mobility, moved to Martin Luther Manor. She was easy to get along with, had a great sense of humor, and never wanted to miss a thing. Viola had visits from her Oregon famiy-her sister, Wilma Gibson, her brother, Delmer Ransdell, and Johnnie’s sister and husband, Vera and Glenn Clark. She lost her youngest sister to cancer a couple of years ago. Viola is survived by Johnnie, her husband of almost 67 years; by her two sons and their wives, John and Jodene, and Gene and Glenda; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. John and Jodene have three children, David, Jim and Janna; Gene and Glenda have two children, Cindy and Kristen. David and wife, Camie, are the parents of John and Lauren. Jim and wife, Sherry, are the parents of Brad, Jeff, and Travis Phillips, and Connor, Madison and Jamie. Cindy and husband, Harry Allen are the parents of Jenora and Adria. Also surviving her, are her brother, Delmer Ransdell and his wife, Dorothy; her sister, Wilma Gipson; and many nieces and nephews. Viola departed this world on Sept. 19, 2004. She was a wonderful example of hard work, hospitality, faithfulness, and loyalty for us all. Services are tentatively scheduled to be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln.
