William Riley, Johnson was born August 5, 1857 near Murray; Iowa and passed away at his home in Osceola, October 13, 1938 at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 8 days. He was the only son of Charles and Martha Johnson. He had three sisters, namely, Emma Heaton, deceased, Addle Davis of Murray, and Laura I. Arnold, deceased. When he was 12 years old they moved to a farm near Leslie, Ia., where he lived until 21 years ago when he came to Osceola. He has spent his entire life In Clarke county. He was married to Mary S. Linder September 21, 1882, in Osceola. To this union were born five children, three preceding their father in death—Madge„ Clyde and Ula. He leaves to mourn, his faithful wife of 56 years, a son Pearl and wife of Leslie and son Charlie and wife of Weldon, besides a host of relatives and friends. - He was united with the Christian church at Leslie in 1907 until he moved his membership to Osceola in 1917. He has been a continual sufferer for several years. The patience and kindness which he possessed I were endless and characterized his life to the end. He always expressed appreciation for everything done for him. His fine character and lovable nature won the love of all who knew him and the good influence of his life will be remembered throughout the years.
