He was converted to God about 12 years ago and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, then worshiping in the Means school house, northeast of Villisca. MEANS William Thomas Means was born in Montgomery County, Iowa September 29, 1869, and died Saturday evening at 11 o'clock, August 5, 1905, aged 36 years, 10 months, and 7 days. He was converted to God about 12 years ago and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, then worshiping in the Means school house, northeast of Villisca. After moving to Nodaway, he was received into the fellowship of the Presbyterian Church there and was a member of that church at the time of his death. He leaves a mother, Mrs. Henry Means; two brothers, James and Robert; four sisters, Mrs. F. F. Overman, Mrs. J. D. Thomason, Mrs. A. R. Tucker, and Miss Mae Means; a wife, Mrs. Lizzie L. Means; two sons, Forest Lone, aged 16 years, and Robert Ray, aged 13 years; a little daughter, Pearle, aged 3 years and 6 months. Several months ago Mr. Means entered a hospital in Omaha and underwent an operation which for a time was believed to be successful, but as time wore on he gradually grew worse until he fell in sleep. He died in the faith of the gospel, and as the end drew near, without a tear he told his friends not to weep and bade them all good-bye and requested them to meet him in heaven. He was resigned to God's will; it was God's way. The funeral services were held Monday, August 7th, at 3 o'clock P.M. at the Presbyterian Church in this city and a large number of his friends from Nodaway attended. The profusion of flowers was evidence of the esteem in which he was held by his friends. The singing was by the Nodaway choir and the pall-bearers were all his old friends from Nodaway. Mr. Means was a member of the Woodman Lodge and its members followed him to his last resting place and threw into the grave their bits of evergreen as a token of esteem. Mr. Means was respected by all who knew him. He was a faithful friend, a good citizen, a loving father, an affectionate husband, a sincere Christian, and will be greatly missed from the community. His earthly life has closed, but his influence will live. He was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ and died with hope of immorality.
