Please also submit relative links where applicable (mother, father, spouse), again, via the usual "edit" mechanisms. ============ The Anglo-American Cemetery (AAC) was founded in 1914 by a consortium of institutions (American University of Beirut, the British Embassy, the American Embassy, the Community Church, the Jerusalem and East Mission Trust, the United Presbyterian Church, and the All-Saints Church (Anglican)), due to the lack of burial places for staff or community members of non-Lebanese origin (others being presumed to have other options). [paraphrased from AUB Bulletin, Spring 1999, pp.18-19] Note that there was also an earlier Mission Cemetery, but "by the turn of the century the Mission Cemetery was becoming very full that is why [the consortium] established the AAC. [...] In 1960, the Shehab government actualized a road works plan that ran a new road through the Mission Compound, and through the Mission Cemetery. So the Mission decided to relocate the graves to the AAC. This is the reason why ALL older graves are also found in the AAC (in Plot 2 or the Charnel House)." [fide Dr. Christine Lindner, pers. comm.
