Originally at 724 Baikal Road, it was founded in 1917. Baikal Road Cemetery became the largest Jewish cemetery in Shanghai, consisting of 1,692 graves. During the Cultural Revolution, the majority of foreign cemeteries in China were destroyed. In 1958, the final closure of foreign cemeteries in Shanghai was declared.
