Description	:	This cemetery is surrounded on three sides by the effects of the coal mines. The only access is to go by the guard post, leave a drivers license, and get a key to open the gate on the small dead-end road to the cemetery. Turning around at the end of the access road is almost impossible; but because of the terrain, backing up the road is worse. Read More	This cemetery is surrounded on three sides by the effects of the coal mines. The only access is to go by the guard post, leave a drivers license, and get a key to open the gate on the small dead-end road to the cemetery. Turning around at the end of the access road is almost impossible; but because of the terrain, backing up the road is worse. It is a beautiful cemetery in two parts and has both modern monuments and rocks that were put there to mark graves, some of which have been there for well over a hundred years. For all its inaccessibility, it is well kept and shows the care and importance to the descendants of those buried there. The most well-known graves are those of William Westley, "W.W." and his wife Anna Bond Fields. William Westley was an old Regular Baptist preacher, who was the first moderator of the Sardis Association when it split from Mates Creek in 1893 over the question of predestination. Their daughter Ellen Fields Pauley is also buried there, as well as their son Jeff, also a Regular Baptist preacher, and his wife Sidney, for whom the Sidney church was named. Both sons were preachers, and all three preached in the last service William Westley preached. The cemetery is a peaceful scene, hard to get to, but a beautiful drive with views along the way of the lake created by the mining. Those familiar with the cemetery have interesting stories to tell of the people who have it as their final resting place. It is a wonderful example of the reverence the people of the area have for their heritage.
