Description : The Bear Gap Friends Meeting was an Indulged Meeting belonging to the Fishing Creek Half-Yearly Meeting in the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Hicksite Friends. It was first established in 1840 as the Shamokin Friends Meeting. The name was changed from Shamokin to Bear Gap in 1884-85. In 1886 a visiting minister described the Meeting as having "an old deserted school house on the grounds. It was the place of meeting before the log meeting-house was built; a graveyard is enclosed, but the meeting-house s in a grove and pleasantly situated."
