Description | : | This little cemetery was only for the inhabitants of the camp, which was in Gbatala, Bong, Liberia (not an option in the drop-down box). The Black Hebrew Camp was a settlement of Ben Ammi Ben-Israel (born Ben Carter) and his followers, who were African-Americans. They established the camp in July of 1967. This group was not welcomed by the Liberian government and many of the people died from diseases. They moved on to Israel in about 1970, where they were again not welcomed and suffered from discrimination and persecution. In Israel, they were known as the Black Hebrew Community. |
