Description	:	Abandoned Cemetery The pioneer church of the village was of course Roman Catholic. A lot had been given on the corner of Blondeau and Second streets, for the building of a church. Until completion, a house of two rooms was put on the corner of the lot, near the back. Mass was said here, with one room for a chapel and the other for the Priest to live in. Weddings were held here, including one for Elizabeth Hunt and Henry Louis (De Louis). The lot surrounding the church was used as a cemetery. Twenty-five men are buried here. They were killed... They were killed in an explosion of the steamboat Mechanic in their endeavors to get off a large rock in the first chain of the rapids. It was from this event that it took the name Mechanic Rock.
