Chesterfield County The Brittan graveyard is very small, consisting only of two graves – those of a young wife and mother and her three year old daughter. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The grave of the child, Eliza E. Brittan, is older only by one month, and it is thought the grief which the mother felt in the loss of her only child resulted in her death. Both of these graves lie a short distance in front and within sight of the house which was once owned and occupied by Samuel Brittan, a flour inspector, in Richmond during the War Between the States. The older grave is marked by an upright granite slab, while the other is enclosed in a brick tomb approximately three feet in height on top of which rests the three by six foot tombstone.
