Bryan Family Reunion The descendants of the late James Averette Bryan and Catherine Holloway Rix held their annual family reunion Sunday at the old Bryan homestead at Kathleen. Their children were Dr. R.C. Bryan, Abner Council Bryan, and James A Bryan, Laura Bryan Steadman and Nancy Bryan Whitehurst. The late R.C. Bryan, who practiced medicine in Houston county for many years, married Miss Eliza Brown and their children were Mrs. J.O. Wardlow and Mrs. Jerry H. Davis, both deceased. Mrs. Wardlow was the mother of R.T. Wardlow and Mrs. Sadie Wardlow Story, widow of Dr. J.W. Story, of Kathleen. Mrs. Story has three children, John, Jim and Mrs. Mattie Story Woolfolk (sic). Mrs. Davis was the mother of J. Alva Davis of Perry, Dr. E.B. Davis of Bryomville, and Mrs. Pearl Beall Davis of Ocilla. There are six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren in this line. Abner Council Bryan married Harriet Taylor and their children were John Averette Bryan, Mary Rix Bryan who married H.J. Lawrence (sic) of Baxley, and Sarah Elizabeth Bryan who married Oscar Heard of Cordele. Only Mrs. H.J. Lawrence survives of this group. Her children are John A. Lawrence of Baxley; Elizabeth Lawrence (Mrs. Stanley P.) Brobston of Jasper, Fla. Mrs. Lawrence and John A. Lawrence, of Baxley and George W. Sackman Jr. of Jacksonville were present at the reunion Sunday. The late J.A. Bryan married Miss Lynda Lee of Covington and their children were Lee Bryan, U.S. Navy, Mrs. Lynda Lee (Howard) Winburn, and the late Cabiness Bryan. Mrs. Lynda Lee Bryan and her friend, Mrs. Fannie McLaughlin Taylor of Atlanta were at the reunion. James Byran married Miss Lou Finney and their children were Ben, Herburt, Stewart, Maude, and Mrs. Julia Bryan Houser. Only Stewart Bryan of Kathleen survives this group. The Bryan family reunion has been held annually since 1918 or for 26 consecutive years. The family reunions were begun by Mrs. Elizabeth Lawrence Brobston following her graduation from Agnes Scott College. The late Oscar Heard of Cordele owned the Bryan homestead and during his lifetime it was called "Camp Heard". Mrs. Lynda Lee Bryan of Atlanta now owns the old homestead. Please note that the spelling of the surnames Lawrence and Woolfolk appear as they did in the article.
