Description	:	Since its inception in the 18th century, the Catholic Parish of Pysznica had a cemetery at the church. The decree of Emperor Joseph II in 1782 and by proxy the Nadworna Commission of Western Galicia dictated the immediate relocation of cemeteries outside of human settlements. The Parish of Pysznica relocated the cemetery to the outskirts of the village on the road to Jastkowice. The current cemetery is located at that original site from 1784. Read More	Since its inception in the 18th century, the Catholic Parish of Pysznica had a cemetery at the church. The decree of Emperor Joseph II in 1782 and by proxy the Nadworna Commission of Western Galicia dictated the immediate relocation of cemeteries outside of human settlements. The Parish of Pysznica relocated the cemetery to the outskirts of the village on the road to Jastkowice. The current cemetery is located at that original site from 1784. The proof of which is at the modern tombstone that has been created for Father J. Tokarski. Stephania Rostek and Father Wladyslaw Szubardze dug out the sand layer and found the border stone of the grave and buttons from his cassock. The current area of the cemetery is 1.4 hectares. Some interesting facts regarding the Parish Cemetery of Pysznica are as follows: --One of the oldest tombstones, located on the main aisle near the alter belongs to Eleanor Pankiewiczowiej of Namirowskich who died in 1888. She was the wife of forester Rudy Jastkowskiej. A characteristic element of the tombstone is a concrete cross with a tied sash. --The headstone of Valentine Jachim is concrete and crowned with a metal figurine of Jesus Christ. Valentine was the first peasant from the Galician low country to hold a position in parliament. He was an educated man and knew the German language. He received a certificate for the post of the national parliament on 2 July 1889 and held one of the five peasant posts in parliament. However, most likely as a result of intimidation, he resigned from this function. --The headstone of Mieczyslawa and Henry Chochoroskich, located on the main aisle, is made of sandstone and has a statue of the Virgin Mary. Henry was the secretary of the municipality and organist at the Parish Church. Before and during WWI he led the community in socio-cultural activities which involved national anniversaries. He prepared the patriotic festivities for the events and led the chorus. After his death in 1932, the work was continued by Wanda Maria Bourdon, who had worked with him since 1909. --The headstone of Fr. John Tokarski is located in the corner of the cemetery near Fr. Szubargi and Freedom st. He was the parish pastor in Pysnica from 1822-1841 under the Honorary Chapter of Przemysl. He is famous for enfranchising his members 26 years before the Austrian Government did. --The contemporary headstone of Fr. Charles Werner is located on the main aisle. He was the parish priest of Pysnica from 1841-1872 who was involved in helping the insurgents in 1863. --The headstone of Fannie Kempf (Spouse of engineer) Marie Pausperti is located on the main aisle. It is the only tombstone with the epitaph in the German Language. --The headstone of John Ligeza is located on the main aisle. He was Manager of the Jastkowicach school. His stone was made by the Jekot Rozwadow company. --The headstone of Wanda Maria Bourdon is located on the central aisle. Her work was the heart and soul of many social, cultural and economic initiatives. She organized gala events on national anniversaries that included patriotic content. She directed the childrens choir and artistic teams. Mrs. Bourdon worked at the school for 50 years. She assisted the children in furthering their education by giving material aid. She secretly taught during both World Wars. During WWII she worked in the Polish underground and was a nurse and secretary for the Central Welfare Council, a member of the AK. --The headstones of Fr. Ignactius Pyznik and Fr. Wladyslaw Szubardi are located on the main aisle. Fr. Pyznik was the pastor at the Pysznica parish from 1906-1941 and Dean of Ulanowskiego. It was he who took the pains to build a new brick church in Pysznica after the wood church burned down during WWI. The new Church was built thanks to his efforts, the generosity of the parishioners and their tremendous work. The new church serves subsequent generations to the present day. Fr. Wladyslaw Szubargi was pastor of the Pysznica parish from 1939-1991. He was general canon of the Chapter Yaroslavsky, Dean of the Deanery Ulanowskiego and Chaplain of the Army. He was of great importance in organizing sessions whose teachers instructed on the history of the parish and region. He was an important figure in the development of parish volunteer services and in the organization of education in the parish. --Headstone of Adam Ungeheuer-owner of the manor house, mill and sawmill in Pysznica. --The tombstone of a child: Janina, daughter of Zofia and Jozef Bem. Jozef was the school manager in Jastkowice from 1910-1919. The tombstone is located on the main aisle, distinctive because of the perfectly preserved photographs of the child. Trivia: --A separate cemetery for victims of cholera was located in the forest in between Pyszica and "the fires." Cholera outbreaks occurred in the years 1820, 1849, 1855, and 1880. --At the oldest tombstones can be found bullet marks, providing proof of the war, and at this point it left its trace.
