Description : The Iredell County Poor House, later County Home was established on 200 acres acquired for the purpose in 1841. The property is located south of Barium Springs, to the East of highway 21. Originally four log structures to house paupers, a smokehouse and caretaker's house were built. The County Home Farm was self-sustaining. In 1913 the facility was rebuilt, with modern brick buildings having electric lights and a water / sewerage.
