Turn first right after crossing the Cumberland River Bridge on Big Bottom Road. The cemetery will be on the left side of the road across from the Airport. The lady who lives there said she was told someone hauled off the markers and the cemetery is as it was when she bought the place. Denton's marker was of a newer type stone. His old marker broken was also there. Copied 13 Mar 2000 by Larry E. Mabry. This cemetery has been destroyed since 13 Mar 2000 NOTE: The Denton Moore Cemetery on page 212 was destroyed after Jan 2001. Docket # 01-254,01-255, and 01-256 were settled by the State of Tennessee in the Jackson County, Tennessee Courthouse on 01 Nov 2002. Each of the three people charged only paid $393.50 in court cost. There was no fine nor restitution paid. They each enjoyed Pretrial Diversion and were charged with violation of 0-39-17-311 of the Tennessee code - Desecration of a Venerated object. This was in Criminal Court under the elected Honorable Circuit Court Judge J. O. Bond. The State who determined the charges was represented by the office of District Attorney General Tommy Thompson and his represented Asst. "Buck" Chambers. The three people were first charged in the local court because 0-39--17-311 was a Class A Misdemeanor. As I had Recorded the cemetery in March of 2000, I was served a subpoena as a witness and went to court trying to get "Buck" Chambers to add the additional charges of 39-17-312 - Abuse of a Corpse as a bulldozer had been used to dig down approximately 8 feet to make the spot where the cemetery had been level. The soil was pushed up in a pile to one side of the yard and the very large coffin shaped grave markers were gone. 39-17-312 is a Class E. Felony. It occurs if you "Disinters" a corpse that had been buried or otherwise interred. This was done and each corpse would be a separate count. NOTE: they were each only charged with one count total. The cemetery had at least fifty graves that you could see. Any small grave markers were gone yet when I copied this cemetery each grave could be seen. The Honorable Judge Steve A. Cassetty who held the court where I was to be a witness told each of them if they were tried and found guilty in his court each would have been fined $2500.00 and would spend 11 months and 29 days in jail without getting out early. These three people chose after being advised by Mr. Cassetty to go to the Criminal Court. Yet they were treated as written above. As stated the criminal court did not even charge them with a felony offense. Mr. Cassetty is a SAR, his mother was a DAR and his ancestors are in a cemetery much like the Moore Cemetery that was destroyed. Read of Mr. Denton Moore in the Jackson Co.
