| Description | : | This facility opened as the Illinois State Colony for Epileptics on May 1, 1918. Originally intended to house and care for epileptics, it eventually included care for the mentally underdeveloped as well. It was then renamed Dixon State Hospital and later Dixon State School. The Department of Mental Health took control of Dixon State School in 1961 and changed its name to Dixon Developmental Center in 1975.
