Description	:	According to the 1800 US Census records, county tax lists, and government land grant lists, I believe the early settlers in Logan County lived along the banks of the Guyandotte River. As timbering was their source of income it also provided for clearing of flat land for homesteads and farming. Read More	According to the 1800 US Census records, county tax lists, and government land grant lists, I believe the early settlers in Logan County lived along the banks of the Guyandotte River. As timbering was their source of income it also provided for clearing of flat land for homesteads and farming. Since the Sandlick Creek flows into the Guyandotte River at what is known today as Bruno, WV I believe the hollow of Sandlick was not inhabited by humans until after 1860 or later. According to Land Grant information my 3rd Great Grandfather, John Grimmett, and his Son John acquired tracts of land from the government as well as Absolom Elkins and others on the banks of the Guyandotte River. According to deeds recorded at the Logan County Courthouse, Logan, WV. My 2nd Great Grandfather John continued to purchase land along the Guyandotte River and Sandlick Creek throughout his life time. His property line ran adjacent to Uriah Elkins son of Absolom. The cemetery is located on the former property owned by Uriah Watson Elkins. My 2nd Great Grandfather John and his wife and other Grimmett family members are buried on the cemetery along with Uriah Elkins and other Elkins family members. The cemetery is not very large in land area and holds less than a 100 graves some are marked others are marked with a rock and no inscription. I believe the cemetery was in use prior to 1880 and I don't believe the Browning Grimmett Cemetery was created until after 1880. There is some confusion on Find A Grave about the location of burials in the Sandlick/Christian area. The 3 known cemeteries are the Elkins/Ellis, Browning-Grimmett, and the Upper /Lower Bruno-Sandlick-McDonald (former Tridelphia Country Club Golf Course location) with the later two not being in use until after 1880. Any other cemetery listed at Bruno/Sandlick are possibly privately owned family cemeterie and did not come into existence until after 1950 examples: Gibson, Grimmett, Harrison, Sims, and Toler. The Elkins/Ellis is now owned by the Ellis family. The documentation, photos, history, except for the cemetery identification notations, were previously collected by my deceased sister Donna Grimmett Brown 1957-2011. Donna's quest to find the Grimmett family roots began in the early 1970's and 80's before computers and ancestry.com. She was able to identify a large portion of the Grimmett ancestry by talking with elderly residents who have passed on now and collecting documentation of marriage, death, birth, records from the local courthouse as well as surrounding counties. She documented by hand all of the local cemeteries she was able to access and she spent countless hours and days on the local cemeteries in Bruno. Donna was able to identify the slab of rock with our 2nd Great Grandfather John Grimmett's name and year of death etched in the slab. I am sharing her photo to Find A Grave but if you choose to use it for your files I would appreciate recognition to her for the photo. Thanks in advance. Also at the time of her research she used chalk as a method for reading many of the inscriptions etched in the stones or head markers. The cemetery is located on Blueberry Hill off Sandlick Branch Road at Bruno, WV. After crossing the bridge over the Gyandotte River, take a slight left on to Blueberry Hill approximately 700-1000 ft the cemetery is located on the left. There are no signs and it is grown over with vegetation. The headstones are not visible from the entrance at this time.
