Description : Fort Abercrombie was constructed in 1858 near the Red River of the North in the Dakota Territory. Due to flooding, it was moved to higher ground in 1860. It was the first permanent military settlement in the present day North Dakota. The fort was abandoned in 1877. Many of the remains from this cemetery were first moved in October 1885 to the Post Cemetery at Fort Abraham Lincoln, D.T. then removed to Custer National Cemetery, Crow Agency, MT in March 1905.
