Description	:	The Treaty of Paris ceded the French lands east of the Mississippi River to Britain and the lands west of the river to Spain. Fort San Luis de Natchez was built by the Spanish near present day Vidalia, Louisiana. It was across the river from a British fort that was activated in Natchez, in present day Mississippi. On 20 March 1768, 149 Acadians who had been living in Port Tobacco, Maryland, arrived at the fort. They were plagued by illness and death, and were isolated from other civilization, and were constantly fearful of Native American attacks. After two years, they... Fort San Luis de Natchez was built by the Spanish near present day Vidalia, Louisiana. It was across the river from a British fort that was activated in Natchez, in present day Mississippi. On 20 March 1768, 149 Acadians who had been living in Port Tobacco, Maryland, arrived at the fort. They were plagued by illness and death, and were isolated from other civilization, and were constantly fearful of Native American attacks. After two years, they were allowed to move farther south, into established Acadian communities. There is nothing left of the fort or it's cemetery today.
