| Description | : | From records, The Simon Girty Burial Ground is located on the old Simon Girty land claim, near Big Vian Creek, and about one half mile northwest of the town of Vian. The land claim itself, extends southwest. The cemetery was considered "extinct" as it was destroyed during a WPA road project of 1937, when the family land was declared abandoned and the original family, extinct. The 24 graves were lost in a county road project, where the road was surveyed when the region was sectioned off for the plat maps, with the county road being put through the burial ground...
