Description	:	This was the first public burial ground in the Town of Anson, North Anson village. Burials took place 1830-1860 when a larger cemetery was created. A Liberty Pole was erected in 1860. Supposedly the workmen selected a spot where there were no graves, commenced to dig and soon struck the lid of a coffin. Changing their course a little, they set the pole at the head of the coffin and there it stood for many years. This pole was damaged by high winds. Supposedly the workmen selected a spot where there were no graves, commenced to dig and soon struck the lid of a coffin. Changing their course a little, they set the pole at the head of the coffin and there it stood for many years. This pole was damaged by high winds. The Ruth Heald Cragin Chapter of the DAR had another flagpole erected in the original foundation in 1911. Later they enclosed the burying ground with a wire fence after clearing it of debris. This is also know as "Old Burying Yard Hill" and "Grave Yard Hill".
