The church was originally part of the Pierceland Parish and later became a mission of the St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church at Goodsoil, Saskatchewan. The church was destroyed by a cyclone that passed through the area on 3 Jul 1953. [Excerpts from History Book: Memorable Years; Golden Ridge, by Harold Bennett, pg 579: The first Roman Catholic Church - St. Mary's - was destroyed by the cyclone when it was only a year or two old. The roof was lifted and dropped but pieces of it were scattered for miles. It was rebuilt and operated until 1962. Eventually it was sold to Tony Slager who used it as an Apiary.] The building was later purchased by Glen Sydia who used it as a barn for his cattle. About 50 years after the 1953 cyclone, another cyclone went through the area tearing off tree tops and destroying what was left of the church structure. The cemetery is all that remains of the St. Mary's R.C. Parish and is located behind the site of the original church. There's no road to the cemetery. It's just a small fenced area, in what is now a cow pasture. The last burial was in 1981, but the cemetery is well maintained.
