Description	:	Located 1 mile south of Egypt Pike on a hill on the northwest side of Vollmar Road. The Hicks Settlement of African American families was located in this area before 1840 and took its name from the Hicks family in that group on whose land the cemetery was situated. A school was established there and the community continued to thrive until late in the nineteenth century. By 1900, it had almost ceased to exist as an African American settlement. The Hicks Settlement of African American families was located in this area before 1840 and took its name from the Hicks family in that group on whose land the cemetery was situated. In the 1875 atlas, the land owners west of Vollmar road included Isaac and E.R. Hicks, and Richard Johnson. There were many tombstones unmarked or too worn to read. Copied August 1, 1988 by Sharon and Don Hill. The cemetery is located in Union Township, Ross County, Ohio, and is # 10640 (Hicks Cemetery) in “Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003”, compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
