Sections A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, AA, BB, & CC are complete as of August 2019. Section 3 is complete as of August 2019. Section 1 & 2 need work done and there are stones in those sections that don't have memorials yet. On August 12, 1747, Pennsylvania issued a warrant "for 50 acres of land to be surveyed [...] for the use of a Lutheran congregation as a buryal ground adjoining Ludowick Tellinger and Daniel Yoder, near Colebrookdale township in the county of Philadelphia." Parish registers for the congregation start shortly after in the 1750s. Despite these early actions, the survey for the tract was not returned until 1828 (Copied Survey Book v. C-75, p. 34), and the land continued to be held by the Commonwealth until the following year, when the General Assembly directed the Land Office to issue a patent to the wardens of the congregations (Deed Book v. 206, p. 527, recorded 1894). Now in Berks County, the church and cemetery were originally located in the district near Oley (which evolved into District Township). At November Sessions 1781, the church fell near the northern boundary of Earl Township, and is shown on the original draft of the township (Road Book v. 1, p. 313; Road Draft Book v. 1, p. 186). At November Sessions 1813, the church and cemetery became part of Pike Township (Road Book v. 1, p. 366). In 1873, the Court of Common Pleas incorporated the Hill Church Cemetery Association (Charter Book v. 2, p. 329), and later that year, the cemetery acquired additional land up the hill to the southeast (Deed Book v. 109, p. 596). On March 6, 1950, a petition was filed with the Court of Quarter Sessions to remove certain graves and reinter them in another part of the cemetery. After advertisement in the Boyertown Times, the Reading Eagle, and the Berks County Law Journal, the Court issued a final decree authorizing the removal and reinterment (No. 1047, Miscellaneous Docket 15, Page 522). Over time, the congregations that the cemetery served drifted apart. In 1937, the Lutheran congregation formally incorporated (Charter Book v. 12, p. 579), and the Reformed, now United Church of Christ, congregation did so in 1951 (Charter Book v. 15, p. 383). In 1979, the Lutheran congregation purchased the land where their current church lies, starting the "divorce" process (Deed Book v. 1773, p. 705). Hill Church Union Cemetery, Inc., was incorporated in 1981 (Pa. Corporation Bureau Entity No. 725055), and, in 1983, acquired much of the original land that had been held by the congregations since the 1740s containing the oldest sections of the cemetery (Deed Book v. 1828, p. 881).
