Description	:	The map location is approximate based upon the asylum location on the 1939 Madison West Quadrangle map. In April 1858, county commissioners purchased 80 acres of land from William Hendricks lying below the mouth of Clifty and about three miles from the city, lying between the plank road and the Ohio River. Construction was completed in December. The asylum replaced the older asylum located on Telegraph Hill that burned in March 1858. In May of 1879 there were over 200 persons buried on the farm.
