| Description | : | In 1851 the pioneer settlers in this area voted in favor of organizing a township and gave it the name, Newton, in honor of a township in Cumberland county PA where many of them were originally from. The Presbyterians among the early settlers held their meetings at "Miller's Grove" in a log school, then in the Kingsbury School house after it was built in 1854.
