At the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, a two-story aisle was added, which served as an oratory of Poor Clares brought to Gniezno. The main entrance to the Franciscan church and monastery and to the monastery of Poor Clares was from the market square. Both monasteries were within the later built city walls. After the great fire of the city of Gniezno and the Franciscan church in 1613, the church was converted, apart from its chancel, into the baroque style that was fashionable at that time. The gothic vault was torn off and replaced with a baroque vault. The baroque windows were also rebuilt. In the abovementioned oratory of the Poor Clares, adjacent to the main nave of the church on the north side, there is an altar with a magnificent reliquary containing the earthly remains of Bl. Jolenty. In 1836 there was a dissolution of the Franciscan monastery and the Poor Clares. There were no Franciscans in Gniezno for almost a hundred years. The church was looked after by the parish priests of the Holy Trinity parish as a subsidiary. The monastery was initially occupied by the army, and later put up for auction by the Prussian government. The city authorities bought the monastery and established a school in it. The Franciscans returned to Gniezno in 1928. The church was given back to them, and there was still a school in the monastery. The monks lived in several cells adjacent to the chancel from the south. They also received a parish at their church. In the years 1930-1932 the church was regothisated by throwing down the baroque vault in the nave, which was replaced with a rib vault. The old gothic windows were restored. The former oratory was modified as the nave of the church. Shortly before the outbreak of the war in 1939, the Franciscans bought their monastery from the city, but they did not manage to enter it before the war, because in November 1939 they were expelled from Gniezno by the occupant. Fortunately, the purchase receipts were found after the war and from 1945, after the Franciscans returned to Gniezno, the monastery was restored to its original appearance.
