Although no record is available as to the exact time this cemetery was established or what organization sponsored the event, it was undoubtedly sanctioned by the Oregon town board, and it is evident it took place before the Civil War. Although no record is available as to the exact time this cemetery was established or what organization sponsored the event, it was undoubtedly sanctioned by the Oregon town board, and it is evident it took place before the Civil War. The earliest burial according to data found on a slab, was that of Mary Pierce, who died in 1851. It is said that the cemetery at one time was quite generally filled and was the last resting place of some of the earliest pioneers. Since a number of bodies have been removed and undoubtedly many graves left unmarked and relatives removed to other parts, there are now less than two dozen monuments to be found.
