Description	:	The Lewis Family Cemetery is located near the Tennessee River about 100 yards off Lewis Bluff Road in the Talucah community in northeast Morgan County. The Lewis family migrated to Morgan County from Albermarle and Buckingham Counties in Virginia. Harden P. Lewis and wife, Ann Meriweather Lewis, had properties in Madison Co, AL, as well as Morgan County. Read More	The Lewis Family Cemetery is located near the Tennessee River about 100 yards off Lewis Bluff Road in the Talucah community in northeast Morgan County. The Lewis family migrated to Morgan County from Albermarle and Buckingham Counties in Virginia. Harden P. Lewis and wife, Ann Meriweather Lewis, had properties in Madison Co, AL, as well as Morgan County. The Madison County property was in the Triana area and present day Redstone Arsenal, across the Tennessee River from his brother, Nicholas, who owned a large plantation in Morgan County that had a landing that shipped cotton down the Tennessee. The base of the storage warehouses are still visible today to those who know where to look. In the May term of 1820, "it was ordered by the Court, that Nicholas Lewis have liberty to establish and keep a public ferry across the Tennessee River at or near where said Lewis now lives." Nicholas Lewis never married and had no descendants. In his lengthy will recorded in Morgan Co, AL, Nicholas writes, "I direct my executor hereinafter named to cause the whole graveyard at my residence in Morgan County where the white family are buried, to be enclosed by a substantial stone or brick wall and durable monument of limestone or marble to be erected upon my grave with my name and age and date of my death inscribed thereon - my body first being buried in a decent manner and not wishing to die intestate as to anything that will pass by last will and testament." There are remains of a rock wall but no visible monument for Nicholas. There are many sunk in graves and graves marked with fieldstone. A list of people believed to be buried here without markers was provided by a long-time resident. Directions: Take Hwy 36 east to Valhermoso Springs. Turn left on Talucah Road and go to Stewart Road. Turn right and go to Lewis Bluff Road and turn right. Go to the first curve in the road. Cemetery will be on your left between the first and second curve, about 500' off the road, just before you get to the end of the road.
