Description	:	This grave yard is located in the Duffy Addition to the Fort Plain Cemetery Association's Cemetery north of what has become known as Lipes Lane in the Village of Fort Plain. On July 13th, 2005, Fort Plank Historian Ken D. Johnson was told by the father of the current Cemetery Superintendent that the gravestones in this field where located in an approximately 100 feet by 100 feet square area which now contains a modern RISTAU Family Gravestone [pink granite] near its eastern border. Mr. Johnson expressed some concern that ancient remains may be unearthed when digging new graves, but reports there are no occurrences to date. Glendora Witerlau of the Fort Plain Museum told this author that she remembers Douglas Ayres of Fort Plain joking about the fact that he, Ayres, had interred his horse in the Lipe Family Graveyard, before it became an active part of the "modern Cemetery" to "throw off" archeologists should they ever excavate the graveyard. Also on July 13th, 2005, Glendora also stated that since it had been "abandoned" for some time prior to the modern Cemetery receiving title to the land, they saw no need to make a plot of where the gravestones were located on the property or as to how they lay in relation to one another despite New York State Laws dictating the production of said records. Finally Miss Witerlau indicated that no attempt had been made to transcribe the stones, many of which are now missing, as they were "not part of modern the Fort Plain Cemetery". In his January 8, 1853 Last Will & Testament, David Lipe of the Town of Minden (Montgomery County Wills 9:336) set apart this small family burial ground from the 50 acres of land which he left as a legacy to this son William Lipe and his wife Bestsy, granddaughter of Captain Joseph House. In recent times efforts have been made to associate this graveyard with the Reformed German Church at Canajoharie located about one-half mile north in an attempt to justify the Fort Plain Museum's claim that the fortress known as Fort Plain was built upon this hill.
