In 1882, families of the Spence community felt the need to start a church. Families met under a brush arbor in the vicinty of the Andrew Carter Cox family plot of the old section... In 1888, Tharpe Spence and his wife Rebecca, gave land forthe church and cemetery.Rebecca gavethe church its name, Macedonia. In 1905, H.V. Shepard gave an additional one acre tract of land for the cemetery to deacons of the church. (Note: The following year (1906) Grady County was formed from this portion of Thomas County, Georgia).
