Description : The cemetery was established in the late 1830s on land purchased from the Bowne family. The cemetery is north of 46th Avenue between 164th Street and 165th Street. During the 1930’s, the cemetery was converted into the Everett P. Martin Field, a playground. The cemetery is identified as the Colored Cemetery of Flushing on pages 42-43 of The Graveyard Shift: A Family Historian’s Guide to New York City Cemeteries, Carolee Inskeep, Ancestry Publishing (Orem, Utah) © 2000.
