Description : This burial site was discovered in 1984 during excavation work in Highland Park. It is believed to contain burials from the Monroe County Almshouse (or poorhouse), Insane Asylum, and Penitentiary, which all sat on the Highland Park property in the 1800s. As a result of the 1984 excavation work, the remains of 296 individuals were removed to Mt. Hope Cemetery, but it is believed that a similar number remain interred at this site. [Source: Rochester History, Vol. 45 (1983)] A memorial monument has been placed at the site.
