Description	:	This cemetery lies on over 70 acres of taxable private property between Sproul State Forest and the Susquehanna River West branch. The northern edge of the property borders Burns Run. The cemetery was originally located at Yost Run's mouth and was later moved to its present location. Read More	This cemetery lies on over 70 acres of taxable private property between Sproul State Forest and the Susquehanna River West branch. The northern edge of the property borders Burns Run. The cemetery was originally located at Yost Run's mouth and was later moved to its present location. James Moore, who may have come from the Nittany Valley originally, bought from Thomas Burges and settled in Keating Township [ at that time a part of Grove Township, Lycoming County] in 1830. He and his wife Margaret were pioneers. Moore served on the first Keating Township school board as treasurer. He canvassed the entire county to support Robert Lusk for Justice of the Peace; Lust lost by one vote. He was also instrumental in rescue efforts, saving several lives, during the Flood of 1847, when his own house was washed away. He lived in the area for the rest of his life, being the oldest settler as of 1875, and died in East Keating Township on December 16, 1888, at 80. His obituary states that his body was buried "in the family burying-ground across the river," although no stone remains for him. The small graveyard at this site, now known as the Moore Family Cemetery, is presently part of a private hunting camp. According to the 1900 map of Methodist Churches, a Methodist congregation or preaching point existed at the Moore's, marked on the map as this very property. Still, it was probably on the homestead side of the river. Whether the congregation met in the Moore family home or had a separate building is not immediately clear. Directions Permission is required from the property owner to visit this cemetery. It is only accessible by boat from the Clinton County side of the river. There are no roads into the site in the present day.
