Description | : | The Mt. Hope Settlement was founded near the ancient city of Jaffa (Yafa)in 1853 as a joint effort of American missionaries led by Clorinda S. Minor and German missionaries led by brothers Johann and Friedrich GrossSteinbeck. Their mission was to teach the Jews of Palestine agriculture to prepare for the Second Coming. They were joined by Walter Dickson and family of Groton, MA in 1854. After the death of Clorinda Minor in 1855, the GrossSteinbeck brothers took over leadership of the settlement.
