Description | : | In 1657, Sir William Mure wrote in his "Historie and Descent of the House of Rowallane" that Sir Gilchrist Mure (d. 1280) "builded the Mures Ile at Kilmarnock and decored the same with funerall monuments," arranging also for its continued funding.
