The Poplar Stand Presbyterian Church was moved to Marshall Creek, near Auburn, Cannon County, Tennessee in the mid 1850's and renamed New Hope. The reason for the move was unknown. Abner Alexander deeded the congregation 2 acres on January 19, 1856 and the deed was recorded April 3, 1856.1 A church was built and a cemetery was established near the church building.
