Description	:	The American Cemetery (sometimes referred to as the "Old American Cemetery", and in some old documents referred to as the "Spanish Cemetery") was one of Baton Rouge's first cemeteries, with its earliest burials likely dating back to the mid to late 18th century. It was later referred to as the "Protestant Cemetery". Many of the burials were disinterred and moved to other cemeteries in the late 19th century, and 23 coffins were disinterred (and reburied in a single burial vault) in 1931 during the construction of the new State Capitol building.
