Read More	The Old Dutch Meeting House Cemetery is located on the Old Plank Road and later Hwy 73 when Hwy 73 was relocated to accomodate Lake Norman, about 11 miles east of Lincolnton and a short distance below Machpelah Church in Lincoln Co., NC. The deed to this church lot was from Adam Cloninger to the German Congregation of Killian's Settlement and is dated the 8th day of February, 1803. The Old Dutch Meeting House can be seen from the Machpelah Presbyterian Church in the southeastern part of Lincoln County. The Old Dutch Meeting House, an old log building, was built around 1790. On May 22, 1793, pioneer Jacob Rein (Rhyne) made out his will. He conveyed to the church 35 acres of land. Later this church fell into neglect and, as the years passed, others claimed the land and the deed was lost. In August, 1928, a large marker was erected which reads "In memory of Jacob Forney, French Huguenot and pioneer, born in Alsace in 1721, died in North Carolina, 1806, and his wife Maria Bergner." Though Forney and his wife were quite wealthy, no tombstone was erected to their memory. They are buried in unmarked graves. Information from the headstones was recorded by family members years ago. Since then, headstones have been destroyed or removed and lost. The cemetery was used for many things over the years including a pig pen and a corn field. These photos of the cemetery were taken in 2012 after the cemetery was reclaimed. A few markers were located and placed in the cemetery. The volunteer fire department located next to the cemetery is maintaining the grounds.
