Description	:	The first site of Providence Baptist Church was near the Newman home on the old Indian trail. The next site (about 1838) was in a portion of Berry Woods, now the Pete King property. The cemetery was across the road from the Newman place, and Mrs. Grimes remembered it as being quite large. In the early days many babies and young people died from typhoid fever and other illnesses. It is said that the cemetery was gradually plowed into fields of cotton and corn and only two markers with the name Beavers and Carter were left.
