Description	:	The Spittal Burial Ground was near a hospital annexed to the Priory of Tynemouth in Northumberland, first mentioned in 1320. In his History of Newcastle (1789), John Brand stated that the ruins could still be traced a little to the west of Tynemouth on the road to Newscastle. The hospital stood at a place called Spittle Yards, and “the Spittle” was one of the old burial places in the parish of Tynemouth. Read More	The Spittal Burial Ground was near a hospital annexed to the Priory of Tynemouth in Northumberland, first mentioned in 1320. The hospital stood at a place called Spittle Yards, and “the Spittle” was one of the old burial places in the parish of Tynemouth. The first mention of the burial ground in the parish records occurred in 1645; the first known burial there, in 1662; and the last recorded burial, in January 1707/8.
