Description : Beginnings. Land Grants: 1819-1826 Black soldiers for their service in the Coloured Corps of the British army in Upper canada in the war of 1812. 25 plots. 11 to former soldier. 9 actually taken and cleared and inhabited. 1828-1831 additional influx of settlers on Wilberforce St. 1847 The land was purchased and by Noah Morris and later sold to build a church. May 26 1849. Church built by the black settlers and opened. Cemetery established. The church was constructed with square timbers which were covered in later decades, with narrower wood siding.
