Description : Located in both Hocking and Perry County Ohio. One half of the cemetery is in Hocking County, the other in Perry County. Paynes Crossing was a small black community settled by free blacks who moved to the Ohio Territory in the early 1900's from Virginia. The families who settled Paynes Crossing were Harper, Betts, Mabrays, Striblens, Harden, Hance, Payne and Lett. Members of these families are buried in Payne Cemetery.
