Description : Once called the MOTHER CHURCH OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA, Pohick has the historical significance of being the parish of George Washington, among other notable families at the time - including the Masons and the Fairfax family - names recognizable even today. It was established before 1724 and was the first permanent church of the colony. Augustine Washington, George Washington's father, was one of the first vestrymen of this permanent church.
