Description : The Purdy Burying Ground is separate from, and adjacent to the Milton Cemetery. It can be reached by a foot trail and foot bridge that crosses Blind Brook. A plaque at the entrance to the cemetery reads, THE PURDY BURYING GROUND PRE-REVOLUTIONARY PLACE OF INTERMENT OF ONE OF RYE'S EARLY FAMILIES. THIS TRACT OF LAND WAS PURCHASED BY JOSEPH PURDY FROM JOHN BUDD IN 1685. Baird in his "Chronicle of a Border Town, History of Rye, Westchester County, 1660-1870, 1871" on page 198 has the following.
