Description : Ramahyuck was a mission station establish by Moravian missionary Frederick Hagenauer on the Avon River near Lake Wellington in the 1860's. Hagenauer was hardworking and authoritarian and did not allow the Gunaikurnai tribes any tribal customs or ceremonies. After the forced expulsion of ‘half-castes’ from missions and reserves, Hagenauer encouraged non-Gunaikurnai Aboriginal people to move to Ramahyuck. But in the period between 1905 and the closing of the mission in 1908, Aboriginal people from were moved to the Lake Tyers Mission, some against their will.
