Family lore has it that Hugh Mongan was buried in the Indian Cemetery. The Catholic church in Poygan was not completed until 1861. The work was delayed because of the Civil War. After the war, the church was completed and Hugh was exhumed from the Indian Cemetery and buried in consecrated ground. He is the first person to be buried in the cemetery at St. Thomas Aquinas Church Cemetery. The Mongan family has incorporated and holds a family re-union and Mass at St. Thomas Aquanis Church in honor of family every other year.
