| Description | : | Salkeld Islands were once the private property and residence of John Salkeld, grandson of the eminent Quaker minister John Salkeld and Agnes Powley, of Chester, Pennsylvania. John Salkeld was a loyalist who joined with the New Jersey Volunteers regiment, aka Skinner's Greens, while in St Augustine, Florida in 1779. In 1783, after the British lost the war, the New Jersey Volunteers regiment was disbanded. Loyalist settlements at Digby, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, British Canada were initially established.
