Description	:	The Shaker Cemetery was the second cemetery used by the Shaker community. It replaced the Shaker Burial Ground as a result of an epidemic in 1813 that necessitated its establishment. It was last used in 1959. About 300 Shakers and 17 hirelings are buried here. Some of those buried at the burial ground were re-interred here about 1850. All headstones were removed in 1943 and replaced with the single monument so as to honor all the deceased equally. The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as PIT820.
