Description : By the late 1840's the acre graveyard surrounding the Free Church had become crowded. On 24 February, 1849, seventeen citizens of Loudoun County, headed by Humphrey Brooke Powell, incorporated as the Sharon Cemetery Company. In November, 1850, they purchased four and 1/2 acres from Marietta F. Powell for $520, with the deed noting that the Free Church and its graveyard were now owned by the new company.
